Sandy Fischer joins me on this show. In case are not familiar with Sandy she completed a stellar twenty three year coaching career at Oklahoma State University, in which her teams made six appearances at the NCAA Women's College World Series and won nine Conference Championships. Sandy was selected Midwest Region Coach of the Year five times and was named National Coach of the Year in 1989. She has coached 26 All-Americans, including Olympic players Michele Smith and Melanie Roche. Sandy achieved the 900 win milestone in her career in 2001. Softball has been a way of life for Sandy, as she has played at every level of the game. As the starting pitcher for Western Illinois University, she led her team to the Women's Collegiate World Series in 1972, 1973, and 1975. She also played in the Women's Professional Softball League from 1976-1979 with the championship Connecticut Falcons team. Sandy recently returned to the professional ranks as a coach in the newly launched Professional Fastpitch Extreme Tour. Sandy was recently selected for induction into the prestigious National Fastpitch Coaches Hall of Fame, which will occur at the National Convention in December 2008.

If you're looking for softball infield drills, give this one a try. This one is great and works on the one of the tougher parts of the infielders, the mental game.

Here are two softball hitting drills I use frequently and the improvements are immediate. I drill my players on how picking the ball up early is the difference in a good hitter and a great hitter.

I started these warm ups for girls softball last year. I was getting tired of watching all the balls go scurrying past the players as they were playing catch in warm-ups during softball practice.

My girls absolutely love this softball drill. These are inside softball drills that many of us need this time of year when the first two to three weeks are often spent inside. We call this one the Mat Drill.

One of the things that our 12 year old kids really like to do are “play” with non-softball equipment. During our indoor sessions, we take practice “swings” with a medicine ball for our indoor softball batting drills.

My team loves our "water balloon drill". I coach 6-8 year olds, but this is a fun softball drill for older kids as well when it's really hot outside. It is important for any softball coach to have these fun softball drills for their teams.

Building team unity was one of my off season priorities as a softball coach. This is one of my favorite softball coaching tips that I use to bring a little fun and team building during warmups.
